How Photodynamic Therapy Works

Your skin possesses remarkable self-repair mechanisms — immune regulation, collagen synthesis, barrier restoration. But when cells become compromised by disease or damage, these natural processes slow. Photodynamic therapy activates them again.

PDT works by introducing a photosensitizer (5-ALA) that your body converts into a light-sensitive molecule inside diseased cells. When exposed to precise wavelengths of light, this molecule triggers a controlled cellular cascade that selectively eliminates pathological tissue while leaving healthy skin untouched. It is a photocytotoxic reaction — a biology-led approach that leverages your body's own cellular intelligence.

Unlike broad-spectrum treatments, PDT targets the problem at the source: the diseased cell itself. This selectivity is why outcomes are so consistent and side effects minimal.

The Wavelength Science

Light penetrates skin in layers. Different wavelengths reach different depths and trigger different responses. Quantum PDT delivers five clinically validated wavelengths, each optimized for specific tissue penetration depth and biological target.

Blue 417 nm. Highest energy, shallowest penetration. Targets surface bacteria and sebaceous gland hyperactivity. Ideal for acne, seborrheic dermatitis, and early dysplastic lesions where precision at the epidermis matters most.

Green 525 nm. Mid-depth penetration. Absorbed by melanin and blood vessels. Used when treating pigmentation disorders and vascular components of rosacea — conditions where targeting specific chromophores enables superior results.

Yellow 590 nm. Moderate penetration depth with peak absorption at 590 nm. Calibrated for inflammatory conditions, tissue repair, and PBM indications where the biological target requires a precise energy window between surface and deep dermal layers.

Red 633 nm. The gold standard in photodynamic therapy. Penetrates to the deep dermis and subcutaneous tissue, where it activates Protoporphyrin IX — the target molecule in oncological PDT. Validated across decades of clinical research for basal cell carcinoma, actinic keratosis, and deep inflammatory conditions.

Near-Infrared 830 nm. Deepest penetration with minimal surface absorption. Stimulates cellular energy production (ATP) rather than triggering cell death. Used for tissue regeneration, hair growth, and wound healing without any ablative effect.

Each wavelength arrives from its own dedicated LED panel. No wavelength stacking, no shared power supply, no thermal interference. Precision engineering ensures each reaches full therapeutic intensity.
